Boys Like Girls is the most original band since Fall Out Boy – AKA, Boys Like Girls is the same shit that’s been on the radio since Fall Out Boy came around. They are basically Jimmy Eat World when they started sucking. If you are a fan of the pop-emo-“rock”- garbage (although I’m sure you would have a different description for the genre), and you like bands like The
Academy Is…, Dashboard Confessional, and The All- American Rejects, you will LOVE this record.
I was super excited to review a CD I’d never heard of before until “Heart Heart Heartbreak” started playing. It’s suspiciously reminiscent of Bon Jovi’s “It’s My Life”. I started laughing and thought it might be a joke, and that the album might get better.
I skipped through the tracks to fi nd out every single song sounds alike, but also sounds just like every other song in their musical genre. I don’t absolutely hate this kind of music – sometimes I can guiltily appreciate a little All-American Rejects and the like, but this is just so bad it hurts.
My favourite song on the record is, of course, the title track and single “Love Drunk”. You want to know why? Take a look at these golden lyrics in the chorus: “I used to be love drunk, but now I’m hungover/I love you forever, forever is over/We used to kiss all night, now it’s just a bar fight/So don’t call me crying, say hello then goodbye(Oh yeah!)”.
At first I was a little wary about giving this CD a bad review: I thought they might just be confused and just starting out. And then I walked into Fujiya and heard “Love Drunk” on the radio.
This record is a complete waste of time. I’m sorry if I offended anyone who might like this kind of music, but if you can’t tell by now, I don’t. I would give it kudos if it had ANY originality, or distinct talent, but without bias it just does not have anything that makes it stand out from comparable bands’ music.
Check them out on myspace.
